Next week at Lotusphere,  you can expect to hear lots of great product news announcements on every part of the Lotus collaboration product portfolio. To whet you appetite for Domino information, here is a small taste of what we will be talking about.

The Domino messaging server team has been busy in Domino 8 creating new features designed to appeal to both users and administrators. Some of these features are needed to support new user capabilities in Notes 8. Other improvements are designed to help messaging administrators manage and decrease the costs of running their business-critical Domino email systems.

Here are just three of the many great reasons to upgrade to Domino 8 servers at the same time as you plan to move to Notes 8.

  • Message recall: We've all probably done it - sent an email we wish we could take back. Users of Domino 8  mail servers will be able to retrieve Notes mail they accidentally or inappropriately sent to the wrong people. Activated from the sent mail folder or all documents view in Notes, it allows users to retrieve messages from one or all of the recipients.  The feature will remove the message from the recipient's mailbox and notify the person recalling the message if it has been read (opened). We'll also be giving administrators policy based control over which users can recall messages and if recipients can prevent recall requests and more.

    • Improved Out of Office Service: The Out of Office agent has been replaced by a Domino core service, which means latency and delays in delivering out-of-office notifications should become history. There are also improved user features, such as the ability to notify senders each time a new message is delivered to remind others that you really are still out of the office. There is also a new user interface in Notes 8, shown here:

    • Notes 8 mail conversation thread support: We've improved Domino 8 to make the new Notes 8 threaded views work well in various situations, such as when sending and receiving Internet mail by fully supporting relevant standards.
