We're mostly on 7.0.2 at the moment, apart from a couple of 6.5.x servers so we can reproduce customers' problems, but we're also planning an internal 8.0 beta/pilot. If that goes well, we'll probably look to move up around 8.0.1

The 7.0.2 verison of DB2 store only works with AIX and Windows, not Linux. You can try this capability on Linux now in Domino 8 beta.

Domino 6.5 or 7.x to 8.x is a fully supported upgrade path so you shoud be good to make that move. Only issue I can see is that you will need to be on i5/OS V5R4 for Domino 8.x. See the release notes of the beta for details.
