Domino Blog History

When it began

The blog template was first put together in November 2002 as a general purpose "Content Management" solution for Domino. Using a "first for domino" method of allowing special "Tags" within html to allow end users to create customisable web sites within needing to change the design of the template, enabled us to have non Domino skilled web designers create web designs that were easy to import into Domino and so improving the standard for Domino based websites.

Blogging then became prominent in early 2003 and the direction of the template followed that interest area. The template was available as a free download and many hundreds of "blog" websites were created using it both for personal use and within large organisations across the world.

Official IBM Lotus Notes Domino Template - 7.02

In September 2006 this "blog template" then became an official IBM Lotus Notes template and shipped with version 7.02 of the Domino Server product. A "bluewash" was performed to standardise the UI and clean up some of the more complex areas for more general use.

Version 8.01

Version 8.0.1 was released in early 2008 with a new UI using the new Notes 8 Standard "look and feel". The default web site theme was refreshed to a "Lotus Connections" look.

In addition the web rich text editor was upgraded to use Dojo and "tagging" became the default for organising content.
